-Book by Guy Bolton & John McGowan
-Music by George Gershwin

-Ethel Merman's character was 'Kate Fothergill'
In Act I, Ethel sang the songs "Sam & Delilah" and "I Got Rhythm**".
Act II, she sang "Boy, What Love Has Done to Me"
*The Alvin Theater from then on was to become Ethel's lucky theater.
**There is a litte story you many not know about this song. While Ethel was backstage waiting to go on, she was chewing on a big wad of saltwater taffy. Well a fellow actor bet her she couldn't sing with that big ol' wad in her mouth and not being one to pass up a challenge, the bet was on. Not only did Ethel sing "I Got Rhythm" perfectly with the taffy stuck in the side of her mouth, but she held the middle C for 16 bars on top of it, sending the audience into a frenzy of applause.
Pictures from "Girl Crazy" behind the cut.
(Just a heads up, I plan on doing posts like this one for all of Ethel's shows)
